WRIST – PALM

Free Palmar Arch

relieve or end carpal tunnel syndrome.

Problem:

People’s hands grip with power, but use very little power to stop gripping, they just let go. Thus, when hand muscles (palmaris brevis, flexor pollicis brevis) stop gripping they rarely fully stretch (extension) back out. Over time this becomes problematic, especially for people who have jobs or activities that repeatedly strain their hands. The two sides of the palm pull closer and closer together, stay closer together, slowly squashing all that is between them— meaning what lies in the carpal tunnel, the tendons that contract fingers (flexors), the medial nerve & the synovial sheathing that cushions them. Making this problem even worse, the strong sheath beneath the skin that wraps around the wrist like a 1½ inch wide rubber band (retinaculum), tends to slide away from wrist and bunch together at the palm. All this squashing and bunching inhibits blood flow, allowing sticky minerals to build up in tissues, effectively gluing them where they don’t belong. All these different factors contribute to the gradual compression of the carpal tunnel, to the slow increase of pressure on the medial nerve and tendons that contract fingers, to the immobility that causes tendons to become irritated & swollen, which further compresses the medial nerve until it starts crying out in pain whenever the hand is used.

Treatment:

Decompressing carpal tunnel requires the loosening & de-adhering of retinaculum (when supple it can stretch it back up the wrist), of muscles on both sides of the palm (deep massage that moves muscle fibers away from center line of palm), of bones of palm (so that they can wiggle like individual little fingers). This should take about half an hour per hand, bringing an astonishing amount of immediate relief.

Benefits:

  1. decompress carpal tunnel.
  2. frees & stretches retinaculum back out.
  3. untwists/unrolls palm muscles that can no longer untwist themselves.
  4. frees bones in palm to move individually.
  5. increases blood flow through palm tissues.
  6. decreases friction that causes irritation, inflammation & pain.
  7. dramatically reduces stress on injured or degenerating tendons.
  8. increases hand mobility, strength & endurance.
  9. improves hand fine motor-control.
  10. improves health and usability of hand.

Notes:

Even if one chooses surgery to relieve pressure on carpal tunnel, without loosening and de-adhesion therapy the palm remains unhealthy.
